Your Questions

Now open for questions! Every month, I will feature one question and answer it here and in my NEWSLETTER

December 2008 Question:

I keep hearing about LinkedIn; How can it help me build my brand and how can it help my business?

Answer:

LinkedIn is social networking specifically for business. It allows you to view profiles, ask questions, join community groups, and even gets answers and a job! Using the Kevin Bacon analogy of 6 degrees of separation, you can reach out to your friends, your friends’ friends and up to 3 degrees of separation allowing you to tap into an exponentially strong network. In essence, there are 4 Reasons to Use Linked In.

The 4 Reasons ( 4 R’s) To Use Linked In:

1.Raise Your Brand and Profile- Since over 70% of all vendors and employers will Google you before offering you a job or contract, LinkedIn gives you a strong digital presence without having to create a website. In fact, even if you have a website, your search engine result ranking from this social community may be higher due to its vast number of users.

2.To Reconnect- Given the churning job economy, you’ve undoubtedly lost track of a few connections. By using this site’s “search” feature, you can easily find long lost clients, colleagues, and contacts and reconnect. And it works! A long lost connection recently hired me for a speech!

3.To Give Recommendations- One of the benefits of this community is the opportunity to make recommendations. If you truly believe in someone’s ability and expertise, go ahead and write a glowing review. In fact, doing so becomes a form of co-branding. Your name and recommendation is displayed alongside your favored vendor.

4.Get Referrals- Just as you can write a recommendation, you can also display your recommendations. Again, since LinkedIn probably has more viewers on a daily basis than your own website, your endorsements are visible to all. And these positive reviews allow you to ask for and get referrals in order to grow your brand and business!
