Out of the Mouths of Babes: How to Spew Sexy Soundbites That Get You Remembered

  • Figure skater Adam Rippon nails the performance of his career and when asked about how he did it, he responds: “I can’t explain witchcraft.”
  • A Miami real estate agent showcasing her Miami property on-line boasts “It’s bikini ready.”
  • An opponent of bottled water and its harm on the environment quips: “Paying for water is like paying for gravity!”
If you’re trying to capture media or viral attention, it’s critical to speak so others hear you…and remember you. Read here for my 3 techniques to create #SexySoundbites Click To Tweet

If you’re trying to capture media or viral attention, it’s critical to speak so others hear you…and remember you. I’ve coached hundreds of entrepreneurs and executives on speaking to the media using these techniques:

  1. Create a Mnemonic Device – You need something catchy besides 3 boring points. I created, for example, the PB&J formula – repurposed, of course, to express the sandwiching of ideas.
  2. Use Metaphors & Similes – I often say that “naming is to branding as location is to real estate; it’s the essential foundation upon which to build a brand.” Your goal is to translate the unfamiliar topic to the familiar.
  3. Craft Head Whip Expressions – Kick to the curb cliché statements such as “disruptive” or “revolutionary.” Invent new phrases such as “awe dropping”; show your distaste with colorful expressions such as “I’d rather put forks in my eyeballs.”

The bottom line is this: the media wants arresting statements; they want to grab viewers by the neck and pull them in. Boring is out and exciting is in.
