If Fast Feeders Now Make Fashion, What’s Next? The Top 4 Brand Extensions I’d Like to See
Crazy brand extensions are proliferating:
What if John Fluevog designed laptop computers? Image by Caroline Culler (User:Wgreaves) – Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0.
Popeyes chicken now offers fashion that looks suspiciously like Beyoncé’s designs
Hershey’s is serving up eyeshadow without any calories
NPR is pouring wine for its rabid fans
McDonald’s has created an homage to its Quarter Pounder with 6 scented candles that smell like “2 all beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.” Really!
My Wish List for Brand Extensions
And, if these companies can transfer their brand equity into other products, here’s my magic wish list:
Screaming Eagle Water – Yes. If a certain religious fellow can turn water into wine, I’m asking for the winemaker to make delicious water.
Mercedes Internet – As a raving fan obsessed with their customer service, I vote for Mercedes to gobble up AT&T which is consistently voted the #1 fail for dealing with customers. In fact, the media giant even calculates how long it can keep you on hold before you give up!
The Lodge Cast Iron Cell Phone – Judging from my 2 cast iron skillets that have survived over 35 years, the beloved brand should introduce an indestructible cell phone that survives falls, tornadoes, and nuclear holocausts.
John Fluevog PCs – Master of the outrageous shoes and my fave designer, Mr. Fluevog should introduce a bright, sassy PC for all of the fashionistas. Take a look.
