Why You Shouldn’t Improve Your Weakness, but Learn to Love It

Have I ever mentioned to you that I am geographically challenged?

  • Do you know that I STILL get off at the wrong exit?
  • Do I have to ‘fess up that for 5 years I only shopped at Von’s because I couldn’t get home from Ralph’s?
  • Do you know that one of my son’s first sentences was “are we lost again, Mama?”

Yikes! I’m laughing as I write this blog, but it’s true!

Something is clearly wrong with my hardwiring, but I’ve learned to deal with it. I was one of the first people who bought a car with GPS; I don’t drive in strange cities (I use cabs or a driver), and I always keep “Beatrice” (my voice on the GPS system) on because she is always right and I am always wrong.

I can’t get better at this stuff – no matter how I try. Instead, now I just laugh. If you’ve been told to master QuickBooks as a biz owner and you’re bad at math, I’d be wondering why. If you keep having a resolution to get better organized and it never sticks, perhaps it’s time you keep to your happy, sloppy ways.

Perhaps now is the first time someone is giving your permission to acknowledge your weakness and move on! Maybe you shouldn’t find a solution to your problem, but a way to delegate the task or find a “work around.”

  3. This is one of my favorite things about you…so open and honest! My weakness is data entry or anything super repetitive it makes me want to pull my hair out!! Sooooo I have found someone to delegate those tasks to so I won’t be going bald anytime soon! Ha!
